Waste Management Subsidiary Acquires PharmEcology Associates
WM Healthcare Solutions, Inc. (WMHS), a subsidiary of Waste Management, Inc., announced today that it has purchased substantially all of the assets of PharmEcology® Associates, LLC. PharmEcology provides pharmaceutical waste management consulting services to the U.S. healthcare industry through seminars, on-site risk assessments, and other custom consulting services, in addition to the PharmE® Waste Wizard and PharmE® Inventory Analysis.
The purchase of the Milwaukee, Wisconsin-based business fits into Waste Management’s strategy to expand its healthcare waste disposal services offered to hospitals and healthcare facilities.
Among other services, PharmEcology assists hospitals in identifying and segregating hazardous pharmaceutical waste; providing on-site risk assessments and action plans; and providing a certification program for hospitals that have implemented a pharmaceutical waste management program. More information about PharmEcology’s services is available at www.pharmecology.com.
"By purchasing the assets of PharmEcology, WMHS can help hospitals across the United States minimize the destructive impact of pharmaceutical waste on the environment by helping organizations to comply with state and federal environmental regulations in a cost-effective manner," said Ron Pierce, vice president of WM Healthcare Solutions.
PharmEcology Founder Charlotte Smith, who will remain with the company, said, "We are delighted to join forces with Waste Management, the country’s largest provider of waste management services. WM Healthcare Solutions has the resources to allow us to expand our reach to greater numbers of hospitals who can benefit from our pharmaceutical waste consulting services."
