EPA Publishes New Proposed Pharmaceutical Waste and Generator Regulations
(Brookfield, WI - August 31, 2015) PharmEcology Services, WM Sustainability Services.
EPA has published the pre-publication versions of the Proposed Rule: Management Standards for Hazardous Waste Pharmaceuticals and the Proposed Rule: Hazardous Waste Generator Improvements.
Once the official versions are published in the Federal Register sometime in September, interested parties will have sixty days to provide comments on both proposed rules. EPA has been working towards these proposed rules for a number of years with the intent of tailoring them more specifically towards the healthcare industry. It will be extremely important for healthcare organizations in all sectors, including acute care, retail, and alternate care, to carefully review the regulations and provide comments. For more general information on EPA's initiatives, and for instructions on how to provide comments, please visit EPA's Hazardous Waste Generators page. We also suggest you read Assistant Administrator Mathy Stanislaus' blog Making Hazardous Waste Regulations Work for Today's Marketplace.
